Is it normal for the scent/smell of serum to change and smells bit musty/earthy after 5 weeks of opening?
Hi Sarah, We would not expect an aroma in a product to specifically change its aroma or smell musty in 5 weeks unless it has been stored in an area that is affected by heat or light, for example next to a window. Please let us know if this continues and our customer service team can support.
Should I use retinol or retinal? I’m 41 and have fine lines on forehead, mouth line is getting deeper and gougers more visible
Hi Rebecca, Thanks for the great question. Depending on your skin concerns its best to choose the one that’s right for you. The best way to choose is by age group or skin concerns. For advanced skin of aging, sagging, jowls crows feet (ages 45-80+) we would choose RetinAL. For first signs of aging lines and wrinkles, expression lines uneven texture and tone (ages 20-45) choose RetinOL. However you can follow with Retinol Night Cream with whichever serum you choose. If you are a first timer using retinol/ retinal, we would starting with retinol then building up towards retinal.
How do you combine this with the aha/bhai exfoliating cleanser? Thanks
AHA BHA Exfoliating Cleanser is a deep cleansing and exfoliating formula to be used 2-3 times a week, ideally in the morning. Retinol Youth Renewal Serum can be used at night time and followed with a moisturiser. When using acids and actives always hydrate and replenish skin and use an SPF 50 for day time (perfect partners would be Cellular Hydration Repair Cream and City Skin SPF50).
Can I use the retinol everyday? Can I use it twice a day? Is there any product I need to avoid (e.g. vitamin c or azelaic acid among others)?
Retinol Youth Renewal Serum is recommended for night time only and never layer with any other step two serum or active. You can continue to use Vitamin C in the morning (such as our Vita C Glycolic Serum) but not at the same time. The best product to combine with is SPF after moisturising in the day time- we recommend City Skin SPF50 or Multi-vitamin Clear Coat SPF50. Frequency of use of Retinol Youth Renewal Serum will depend on the individual so start slowly and gradually increase to nightly use.
Hi, what is the percentage of retinol in the serum, eye cream and moisturiser please?
At Murad we do not disclose our percentages in our high performance formulas as these are considered proprietary. Dr Murad creates formulas based on performance and results rather than percentages, and never relies on a single star ingredient but a complex of ingredients that enhance results. In this formula you have three retinol technologies: a fast acting retinoid, a time release retinol and a retinol booster which increases skins receptivity to the retinol without irritation. Percentages become more important in prescription strength formulations where patients are gradually introduced to higher strengths because of the potential for irritation. It's worth mentioning that EU regulations will be reducing the maximum allowed in retail products to 0.3% so it will be more relevant to ask how the retinol is being delivered rather than the percentage as Dr. Murad has always focused on.
